Title: Better search engine, more browsing options!
Post by: SadSwede on August 05, 2013, 10:58 pm
Hello, I've brought this up before but going to do it again. First of I wanna say that I appreciate that you made browsing more advanced - one small step in the right direction. Here are my suggestions tho;
I would very much like to see the choice of a more advanced search engine, I.E you can search for minimum rating of seller, the product you are looking for, price range, region of seller, sort results by time the seller have been here etc.
I also would like to see a function with price range while browsing - its a pain in the ass having to browse through items that cost 25BC when you only have 1 or 2.

Regards, The Sad Swede!

This would be a possibility if the Silk Road system had been structured similarly to how I've described in the thread Upgraded Listing Options: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion/index.php?topic=182090

Now fortunately it's possible to build a system based on the data itself, but it has to be filtered either by an automatic function or sorted manually. There's a very recent reddit thread detailing this concept for weed called You can now search Silkroad by quantity and unit price!: http://www.reddit.com/r/SilkRoad/comments/1jrj3y/you_can_now_search_silkroad_by_quantity_and_unit/

I would personally want to see a site driven by the users in regards to data provided, in Sweden ( you might be familiar with this because of your username, but for others reading :P ) we have an excellent site for this for ( legal ) products which is called Prisjakt: http://www.prisjakt.nu/
Here's an example on how it looks like in the Graphics Card (PCI-express) category: http://www.prisjakt.nu/kategori.php?&m=350#rparams=m=s136355674

The only reason I can see why no one has done this yet it's too expensive and there are no Drug Vendors out there who feel philanthropic enough to invest in a site which does this properly. Some might argue the type of code that would have to be used would be a massive risk in terms of Law Enforcement tracking the site and its users but if this were true the same could be said for sites like Erowid: https://www.erowid.org/

I will most likely return to this concept sometime in the future if I get enough time and funds to create a service similar to this as I doubt anyone will do it properly and I strongly suspect the site described in the reddit thread will die out as the user doing it gives up from lack of time or just loses interest.  :)
